MAST SAIL

Since months I'm interested to build an integrated Mast-Sail.
The preliminary design will be presented soon.
Actually this is a general view applied to the recent AC33 RC Model.
The lateral surface of the Mast-Sail is the integral part of the total Sail surface.
The mast-Sail width is 40mm from the base to the top and will be mounted on ball bearings.
The pivot axis is centered to the front of the mast as such that the forestail hound is not twisted.
The mast is free to turn indipendently from the boom.
Forestay, backstay and shrouds are maintaining the top bearing.

Some drawings to explain the principle :





The actual weight of the sample is 20g for 20cm lenght, therefore one may assume that this type of mast, for the AC33 boat , will be alone in the order of 170g.
The Rig projected weight will be : 25g main boom, 20g jib boom, 25g bearing's assembly, 170g mast-sail and 54g for the 78dm² mylar sail. - total 294g.
At first glance appears to be heavy compared to the budget weight of 250g.
Construction refinements will be studied.
